I don't think the artist who did this mural anticipated that the airport would put ads up on top of the mural. Was this part of the 1% for the arts program? Is it legal to put ads on top of art works? It certainly shows a complete lack of aesthetic sense. Or is this an ad for people to become whale hunters?

The flights are pretty full these days, even on a Wednesday in late September. I guess that's good to have full planes - less pollution per passenger.
Seattle's airport was a lot more crowded.
We scheduled a long enough stop in Seattle to meet our daughter for lunch. But first we went out for some fresh air.
The eating choices inside security are pretty good. But outside security they are pretty limited.
Since our daughter didn't have a ticket, we had to eat outside security.

One-percent-for-the-arts stuff is only just slightly more important than sheetrock and paint. It can be treated about the same as both of those, even if you're Diego Rivera working in Rockefeller Center, New York City.

ReplyDeleteAlbert, thanks for the link about the Rivera mural. Destroying art for political reasons - that's sort of like censorship. This is more like destroying art because you can make money from the space. It's almost worse because we as a cultural value money so much that lots of people see nothing wrong with this. Money trumps art.
